Bond Projects Update:

The current Measure HH Bond projects for our college continue to make progress. We have also developed a current projects page with updates on each project and the SDCCD Measure HH webpage has further updates

Safety, Inclusion, and Belonging (SIB) Task Force Updates:

The Safety, Inclusion, and Belonging (SIB) Task Force meets monthly to further our conversations on continuing to implement proactive strategies for immigration and safety challenges, as well as the importance of reporting any sightings of ICE on campus to the Chancellor or District General Counsel. Reports of ICE near campus (off campus) should first be directed to the COS, who, in collaboration with the Deans, will take appropriate and informed next steps to address the situation.

We have a dedicated webpage with Know Your Rights Information, District protocols, resources, and more curated by our Safety, Inclusion, and Belonging Task Force.

Please take a moment to review the safety cards for navigating ICE incidents on campus. These resources are designed to guide employees on the steps for reporting.

California Community Colleges Veterans Summit

Sofia Montano and Libbier Bakit recently attended the 2026 California Community Colleges Veterans Summit, Desert Muster: Refresh, Realign, Reimagine, gaining valuable insights and connecting with colleagues across institutions to exchange best practices. They look forward to strengthening SDCCE's veteran services, supporting veterans in their educational journeys, and expanding access to instructional programs eligible for enrollment certification.

  • I was grateful to join community college leaders from across California at the 2026 California Community Colleges Black CEO Retreat in Sacramento. The retreat provided an opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, exchange innovative ideas, strengthen partnerships, and reaffirm our shared commitment to advancing equity, access, student success, and institutional excellence. It was also a privilege to celebrate this year's Black CEO retirees. My sincere gratitude goes to Dr. Luke Wood, the California State University, Sacramento team, and this year's retreat planners for hosting such an inspiring and meaningful gathering.
  • I was grateful for the opportunity to attend the San Diego Workforce Partnership Board Retreat over the past two days with fellow members of the Policy Board and Workforce Development Board. Now in my second year of service on the Board, I remain committed to advancing workforce development, expanding economic opportunity, and strengthening pathways that help individuals and communities thrive. It is an honor to collaborate with leaders dedicated to building a stronger workforce and a more prosperous future for our region.

The Research Corner:

This week, we invite you to check out research "Investing in Our Nation's Future: Advancing Educational Opportunity for Underserved Students," by The Civil Rights Project. The research affirms economic and social benefits of investment in public education, it challenges conservative education policies, asserts investments in effective education policies strengthen educational opportunities for all students and deliver benefits to the nation that far exceed their cost. The press release may be found on the following link: https://civilrightsproject.ucla.edu/press-releases/new-study-affirms-economic-and-social-benefits-of-investment-in-public-education/?utm_source=chatgpt.com. Please take a minute to review this resource and email [email protected] if you have any questions.
