San Diego College of Continuing Education Transitions to Seven-Year Accreditation Cycle

San Diego College of Continuing Education (SDCCE) proudly announces that it has received approval from the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC) to transition from a six-year to a seven-year accreditation cycle, extending the college’s accreditation through June 30, 2031.

The transition aligns SDCCE’s accreditation timeline with the San Diego Community College District’s credit colleges while maintaining ACS WASC’s highest level of accreditation. Under the revised cycle, SDCCE will submit a Mid-Cycle Progress Report in June 2028 and will not host an evaluation visit at that time.

“This milestone reflects our shared commitment to providing adult learners with accessible, high-quality education and opportunities to transform their lives,” said SDCCE President Tina M. King, Ed.D. “Maintaining the highest level of accreditation while moving to a seven-year cycle affirms the strength of our institution and the quality of the education and support we provide. I am incredibly proud of what this milestone means for our students and our continued ability to serve some of California’s most diverse and resilient adult populations.”

ACS WASC accreditation is an ongoing process designed to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of an institution’s educational programs and its commitment to student learning and continuous improvement. As part of the accreditation process, SDCCE conducts an in-depth self-study examining its programs, services, institutional practices, student outcomes, and areas for continued growth.

“The self-study process allowed us to take a thoughtful look at both our accomplishments and areas for growth, and it reinforced the strength of our commitment to educational access, student success, and continuous improvement,” said Jessica Luedtke, Dean of Planning, Research, and Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation Liaison Officer. “Maintaining ACS WASC’s highest level of accreditation through June 2031 is a meaningful affirmation of the quality of our programs, services, and institutional practices. This achievement reflects the collective efforts of our faculty, classified professionals, administrators, students, and community partners, whose dedication helps ensure that SDCCE continues to transform lives and strengthen the communities we serve.”

In 2024, ACS WASC formally reaccredited SDCCE for six years with a mid-cycle progress report. The college’s transition to a seven-year cycle extends that accreditation through June 30, 2031. While SDCCE has transitioned from a six-year to a seven-year cycle in the past, this marks the first time the college has done so under ACS WASC’s current accreditation model while maintaining its highest confidence level.

Accreditation provides students, employers, educational partners, and the broader community with assurance that an institution meets established standards for educational quality and is committed to ongoing improvement.
