A scholarship is a designated monetary amount presented to students based on a process involving applications completed by students individually, supported as necessary by specified documentation; submissions are objectively reviewed and scored against a defined rubric by a committee of reviewers. Funds are typically given either in recognition of educational achievement, in support of continued progress towards education goals, or in anticipation of transition to higher education or advancement in career or program levels. A scholarship may also be given for achievements based in education which represent the core values of an individual or group for whom the scholarship memorializes, either in name or in the qualifications established for selection of a student recipient.
Scholarships are for students in good standing with excellent attendance, and each has different requirements. In accordance with SDCCD Board Policy 3410 and SDCE Foundation Board Policy 01-1920 (pend.), on Nondiscrimination, the Scholarship and Awards Program provides equal opportunity and access for all students. Students who are awarded scholarships will be recognized during the annual scholarship awards event.
