Frequently Asked Questions
The GED® and HiSET® are the only approved exams in the state of California to earn a High School Equivalency Certificate.
San Diego College of Continuing Education offers the GED® and HiSET® exam at the Educational Cultural Complex (ECC)* and the West City Campus for for SDCCE students and the public.
*UPDATE: The Testing Center at ECC will be temporarily closed due to construction. Please check back for any updates.
Proof of identity and California residency must be verified at registration and before test admission. In California, the minimum age to test is 18 years old. Some 17-year-olds may be eligible under specific circumstances. SDCCE doesn't determine eligibility requirements - for details, visit the California Department of Education eligibility requirements page.
Both the GED® and HiSET® exams are offered in English and Spanish.
Absolutely! SDCCE offers free High School Equivalency preparation classes, practice exams, and free test vouchers (dependent on funding) for qualifying enrolled SDCCE students. The Tutoring & Learning Center also offers tutoring at select campuses. Learn more about our High School Equivalency program.
Yes! You can request accommodations through your preferred test service. All requests and approvals are handled by the testing services' accommodations teams:
