San Diego College of Continuing Education supports Undocumented Student Week of Action

October 18, 2022

San Diego College of Continuing Education supports Undocumented Student Week of ActionSan Diego College of Continuing Education (SDCCE) is joining forces with California Community Colleges and the San Diego Community College District (SDCCD) during Undocumented Student Week of Action beginning Monday, October 17th through Friday, October 21st to host a series of virtual forums and films.

“At SDCCE, we wholeheartedly support all of our students. We are very proud to welcome and celebrate our Dreamers and their important contributions to our college,” said Tina M. King, Ed.D., SDCCE President. “For more than one hundred years, SDCCE has provided accessible pathways for undocumented adults to assimilate in America through free citizenship classes, English language skills, workforce training and critical resources and we will continue to do so.”

The California Community College system enrolls the largest population of undocumented students of any segment of public higher education. Half of the student body of 30,000 students at SDCCE is made up of Dreamers, immigrants, refugees, and English language learners.

SDCCE´s Immigrant-based Support Program (ISP)  is a safe and welcoming place, collaboratively created and supported by students, staff, faculty, and community organizations, as well as our SDCCD’s credit college Dreamer programs. SDCCE opened its new ISP  Student Center this fall at the college’s César E. Chávez Campus in Barrio Logan.

"When undocumented students can pursue their educational goals free of discrimination and institutional barriers, they´re able to reach their career and professional dreams. These achievements allow them to offer enhanced contributions to their communities and beyond,” said SDCCE faculty member, Sheyla Castillo, an immigrant from Ecuador who alongside other faculty members advocated for the college to offer High School Diploma/Equivalency courses in Spanish since 2006 and later started the ISP program at SDCCE in 2019.

SDCCE’s Dreamer Resource Program presents the 2nd Annual SDCCE UndocuDialogue virtual series:
