Over 40 organizations will be tabling the Expo including the San Diego Workforce Partnership, San Diego Gateway to College and Career (SDG2CC), and several middle-skill unions. SDG2CC supports students ages 18-24 beyond the classroom with paid internship placement and individual counseling in a case management style.
California's 79th Assembly District is represented by Democratic political leader Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D.
“As our workforce continues to evolve and ways of developing career pathways expand, apprenticeship and vocational programs have become an integral part and viable option for many young adults when considering a career field,” wrote Dr. Weber. The UCLA alumni received her BA, MA and Ph.D. by the age of 26. Prior to receiving her doctorate, she became a professor at San Diego State University at the age of 23.
Dr. Weber and San Diego Continuing Education’s (SDCE’s) President Carlos O. Turner Cortez, Ph.D. will welcome visitors to the campus at 1:00pm with encouraging remarks toward career and college pathways.
SDCE is the adult division of the San Diego Community College District and offers 70 free career training programs and free classes in Business, Digital Design and Healthcare. Students and their families will have the opportunity to tour SDCE’s flagship campus, automotive and welding labs and learn about college transition opportunities to the SDCCD City, Mesa and Miramar colleges.
The event is free and open to the public.
