Hispanic Heritage Month Art Exhibition in Barrio Logan

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at San Diego College of Continuing EducationA visual art exhibition and contest for Hispanic Heritage Month will be held on Thursday, October 13th, from 1:30pm to 3:30pm at San Diego College of Continuing Education’s (SDCCE) César E. Chávez Campus in Barrio Logan at 1901 Main St. This year’s theme “A Celebration of Culture, Community, and Courage” empowers SDCCE students and employees to share their heritage and traditions or tribute to Hispanic and Latinx culture.

Art submissions will include paintings, film and digital photography, sculpture, clothing, textiles, print media, or the visual presentation of a culinary dish. SDCCE will award grand prize winners a $250 gift card.

“Our college is extremely proud to showcase the talents of our students and employees in recognition and celebration of SDCCE’s rich Hispanic and Latinx community and culture,” said Tina M. King, Ed.D., SDCCE President. “I am most excited about our community displaying their pride of culture and history through art.”

SDCCE provides adult learners free career education in priority workforce sectors from healthcare, digital media, to business as well as free high school diploma/equivalency, citizenship, and English as a Second Language (ESL) courses. Hispanic and Latinx students make up 34% of the college’s population of 30,000 students annually served.

César E. Chávez Campus the Campus of Excellence for Healthcare Careers at SDCCE to host Art Exhibition.SDCCE boasts six campuses around the city of San Diego, the César E. Chávez Campus and parking garage feature the life and work of Cesar Chavez, a prominent Civil Rights, Latinx and Farm Labor leader. The unique building represents the Latinx experience and heritage of Barrio Logan — from the campuses United Farm Workers symbolism, Chuey’s Lounge, to the lowrider wall and ceiling artwork inspired from astrological images used in Mayan calendars.
