New North City Campus

The new North City Campus is the Campus of Excellence for Business + Information Technology. Students learn in state-of-the-art, technology-rich classrooms, computer labs, and multipurpose areas that support short-term classes and job training programs for business technology.

The new campus is a result of San Diego voters approving Propositions S and N, which support new construction, renovation, and infrastructure projects for the San Diego Community College District. Classes begin in the new building on Tuesday, September 3 and a Grand Opening is scheduled for Wednesday, October 30. You can visit the campus, tour the facility and learn more about the programs and free classes.

About the Programs

Business and information technology classes help the San Diego community acquire and maintain business and digital literacy skills. A variety of courses are offered from beginning through advanced levels, empowering adult learners to use technology to meet business, personal, and professional goals. Whether you are new to computers or an experienced professional, we have free classes to meet your needs. Classes are taught in modern, state-of-the-art labs and rooms with the newest technology for teaching and learning. New equipment allows an expansion of the Business and Information Technology program to include new classes for computer repair and a hands-on Cisco lab, creating a real-world environment for students. Plus, two fully equipped Mac labs allow the entire multi-media program and other advanced courses to be instructed on iMacs.

The new facility also houses a new High Tech Center for Disability Support Programs and Services (DSPS), which is used to teach instructor-led computer classes and for assistive technology training so DSPS students can participate as fully as possible in classes and programs. An Introduction to Computers class will be offered for students in the DSPS Program. The class teaches basic fundamentals of computer use for personal and academic purposes for students with a verified disability. Students must contact a DSPS counselor to schedule an appointment for enrollment and accommodation requests. Classes for GED preparation and completing a high school diploma are also offered to adults who need to complete this important educational goal.

About the Building

Voters in San Diego sent a strong message of support to the San Diego Community College District (SDCCD) when they voted to tax themselves and approved two bond measures: Proposition S was passed in 2002 and Proposition N in 2006. The bond measures have resulted in new building and renovation of facilities throughout SDCCD, including the new 42,000 sq. ft. Continuing Education North City Campus.

Sustainability features include:

  • Mechanical efficiencies reduce energy consumption and exceed state efficiency standards by%
  • Daylight sensors automatically dim lights in response to available lighting
  • Operable windows with natural ventilation and sensors shut down mechanical systems when windows are open
  • Low flow plumbing fixtures reduce water consumption by%
  • Construction waste (% or more) diverted away from local landfill
  • Water efficient landscaping, plus drywell treats storm runoff on site
  • Green roof and inside materials, such as linoleum made from linseed oil and natural maple for ceilings

The project is expected to receive a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification.
