On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, San Diego College of Continuing Education (SDCCE) President Dr. Tina M. King had the distinguished honor of serving as emcee for the official swearing-in ceremony of County Supervisor Paloma Aguirre.
Held at the San Diego County Administration Center, the event brought together residents, community leaders, and elected officials in a celebration of leadership, service, and civic responsibility. Supervisor Aguirre, a dedicated public servant, was honored for her unwavering commitment to equity for working families, environmental justice, and immigrant rights. “This seat doesn’t belong to me – it belongs to us,” said Supervisor Aguirre during her remarks.
The ceremony highlighted the power of representation and the importance of inclusive leadership in shaping the future of San Diego County. President King’s participation underscored SDCCE’s deep ties to the broader community and its mission to foster opportunity, access, and social mobility through tuition-free education and workforce development.
“It was an honor to serve as the emcee for such a historic day,” said President King. “Today’s celebration was more than a ceremonial moment—it was a reflection of what’s possible when leadership centers justice, collaboration, and the needs of the people. We are honored to partner with elected officials like Supervisor Aguirre to move our communities forward.”
Supervisor Aguirre’s background as the former mayor of Imperial Beach and her longstanding work as an environmental advocate have shaped her people-first approach to public service. She represents District One, which includes the cities of Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, National City, and some communities within the City of San Diego, including Barrio Logan, East Village, Golden Hill, Mountain View, San Ysidro, and more. It also includes the unincorporated areas of Bonita, East Otay Mesa, Lincoln Acres, Sunnyside, La Presa, and parts of Spring Valley.
