San Diego College of Continuing Education to Host Free Juneteenth Event

Community members, students, and employees from San Diego College of Continuing Education celebrate Juneteenth at the Educational Cultural ComplexSan Diego College of Continuing Education invites the public to celebrate and honor Juneteenth on Thursday, June 20th, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Educational Cultural Complex South Patio (4343 Ocean View Blvd).

The second annual celebration will be led by Master of Ceremony Jonzi Jones, who was named Mr. Black Culture Art and San Diego 2024. A tribute to Black history will be expressed through musical performances from Buki Domingos band DSOUL, storytelling with San Diego Urban Warriors CEO Dajahn Blevins, and poetry recited by Kelsey Daniels.

“We look forward to opening our doors to the community in celebration of freedom and to pay meaningful tribute to our Black ancestors and trailblazers who paved the way before us,” said Dr. Tina M. King, College of Continuing Education President.

The Educational Cultural Complex has been a symbol of community and African-American activism since its beginnings in 1976. The campus theater has hosted Civil Rights dignitaries: Coretta Scott King, Jesse Jackson, and Stevie Wonder.

Today, the College of Continuing Education is a hub for free workforce education, English as a Second Language (ESL), Citizenship, and High School Diploma/Equivalency classes for adult learners 18+. To learn more visit SDCCE.EDU.
