The San Diego College of Continuing Education (SDCCE) will participate in its first-ever Pride flag-raising ceremony on Thursday, June 1, at 9:30 a.m.

SDCCE boasts seven campuses around the city of San Diego and flag-raising ceremonies will take place at the Educational Cultural Complex, Mid-City Campus, Cesar Chavez Campus, West City Campus, and North City Campus in support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer/questioning, asexual (LGBTQIA+) community. At the Educational Cultural Complex in the San Diego community of Mountain View, remarks will be delivered by SDCCE President Dr. Tina M. King, Counselor and LGBTQIA+ Coordinator Dr. Lisa Carulli, Classified Senate President Neill Kovrig, and Professional Development Coordinator Carla Grossini-Concha. Light refreshments will be served.

In April, the SDCCD Board of Trustees voted to declare June 2023, and every June thereafter, to be a districtwide celebration of LGBTQIA+ Pride. This includes raising the Intersex Inclusive Progressive Pride Flag at City College, Mesa College, Miramar College, College of Continuing Education. The SDCCD stands in solidarity with each of its students, employees and community members in our commitment to access, safety, dignity, acceptance, and inclusion.

For 109 years, the SDCCE has provided tuition-free education and career training to adult students who are among the most vulnerable adult populations in California including immigrants, refugees, homeless, formally justice involved, Dreamers, veterans, and students from underrepresented communities. Thanks to a $1.25 million grant obtained by Rep. Sara Jacobs this spring, the San Diego Community College District, including SDCCE, will create or expand Pride centers at its campuses.
