San Diego, CA. — San Diego Continuing Education (SDCE) will join the hundreds of people marching this weekend to honor Civil Rights Leader, Martin Luther King, Jr. The 38th annual MLK parade is scheduled for Sunday, January 14 at 2:00pm in Downtown, San Diego.

For several consecutive years, SDCE students in the welding career training program design and build a float that embodies the leadership of Dr. King with the metal artistry and techniques they learn in the classroom. Past entries have received numerous first place awards.

This year, SDCE students in the interactive media career training program created the design for the parade t-shirts, which SDCE students, faculty and staff wear while marching in the parade.

The public is invited to walk with SDCE in the 2018 parade. Participants are requested to meet at 1:30pm in the staging area across from the County Administration Center (1600 Pacific Hwy, San Diego, CA 92101).

SDCE is the adult education division of the San Diego Community College District which includes City, Mesa and Miramar. Each college will design a float and march in tribute of Dr. King.

SDCE’s spring 2018 semester begins January 31.

Free welding classes take place in the Mountain View community at SDCE’s Education Cultural Complex, located just a few miles away from General Dynamics NASSCO.

Upon completion of 600 hours students may receive a welding certificate from the American Welding Society (AWS) and SDCE.
