“It is not very often that the interim president leaves a mark, but Dr. Boger has left a legacy at SDCCE,” said Neill Kovrig, SDCCE’s Classified Senate President. Music was performed by CEO’s Rhythm Section and a tribute video was played.

San Diego Community College District (SDCCD) Chancellor Carlos O. Turner Cortez, Ph.D., members of the SDCCD Board of Trustees including President Maria Nieto Senour, Ph.D. and Craig Milgrim, and San Diego Mesa College President Pamela T. Luster, Ed.D. were in attendance.

Dr. Boger began her appointment as interim president on August 1, 2021. She previously served as SDCCE’s former acting Vice President of Instruction and the college’s Director of Industry Partnerships.

"An overarching goal for me has been to work with you to continue to create effective learning and working environments that are safe and secure, welcoming, and equitable," said Dr. Boger. "We expanded outreach to our community, including employers, government, and nonprofit organizations. I feel very good about what we have accomplished together."

With 30,000 students annually enrolled, SDCCE is one of the largest noncredit institutions in California. Dr. Boger led SDCCE back to in-person work and learning following nearly two years of remote operations during the COVID-19 pandemic, directing hard to transition workforce classes to a fully online or hybrid format, a safe return to campus, and the advancement of the SDCCE’s Seven Pillars, which addresses basic needs barriers that adult noncredit students face.

Since her arrival at SDCCE in 2018, Dr. Boger has raised $81 million in grant funding to provide housing assistance for students in need and to expand industry partnerships resulting in more paid apprenticeship readiness programs for students. Dr. Boger also advocated for an SDCCE student to serve on the SDCCD Board of Trustees, which historically has not had student representation from the noncredit college.

“Dr. Boger has led SDCCE into its platinum age. Contract education is just beginning for SDCCE,” said Chancellor Cortez, who is a champion of noncredit workforce education. “To my knowledge, no other interim president has raised $81 million during their tenure to support more resources for students.”

Her multitude of accomplishments were accompanied by celebrations. Dr. Boger hosted a Community Partner Recognition breakfast to honor local organizations for their continued advocacy and support of SDCCE. She celebrated students during the 14th annual “Stars on the Rise” Scholarship and Awards Ceremony, where she presented the Faulconer Family Scholarship to information technology student, Tania Melendez. Dr. Boger will make her final remarks as interim president during the 2022 commencement.

Dr. Boger has more than 30 years of higher education and business consulting experience. Prior to leading SDCCE, she worked as the dean of Ventura College, acting vice president of Instruction at Oxnard College, and was the manager of America’s Job Centers.

Dr. Boger holds a Doctorate in Higher Education and Educational Psychology from the University of Southern California, a Master of Business Administration from Pepperdine University, a Master of Public Communication from Pepperdine University, and a Bachelor of Arts in English from California State University Northridge.

Following Dr. Boger’s departure, president-elect Tina King, Ed.D. will become SDCCE’s next president on Friday, July 1, 2022.
