SDCCE Thanks Community Partners for Support Beyond the Classroom

San Diego College of Continuing Education's North City Campus Located in Kearny MesaOn Thursday morning, May 19, 2022, San Diego College of Continuing Education (SDCCE) —  one of the state's largest providers of free workforce training welcomed industry partners and distinguished guests for a Community Partner Recognition Breakfast. Local organizations were honored for their continued advocacy and support of students, who are among the most vulnerable populations.

“San Diego College of Continuing Education understands the importance of collaborating with community partners. By combining resources with like-minded organizations in San Diego, we can leverage our resources and make communities stronger,” said Kay Faulconer Boger, Ed.D., Interim President at SDCCE. Dr. Boger previously served as SDCCE’s director of industry partnerships, creating training and sustainability for government, business and workforce development programs.

At SDCCE, adult students complete certificates across 80+ high-growth and in-demand workforce sectors including healthcare, information technology, and skilled and technical trades or earn a high school diploma/equivalency at no cost. Community partners at SDCCE help bridge students from the classroom to employment or transition to college through networking opportunities and by providing accessible resources such as bus passes, laptops, and apprenticeship readiness internships.

SDCCE held the Community Partner Recognition Breakfast at North City Campus, where guests toured the campus and shared in praise of student success stories and new happenings at the institution. Cyber expert and SDCCE faculty member Alphonso M. Brown, MBA, MIS, CISSP was the guest speaker and led attendees in a crash course in information technology. Parina Parikh, Vice President of Sector Initiatives and Omar Baeza Director of Sector Initiatives also presented during the spotlight on SDCCE's current collaboration with the San Diego Workforce Partnership.

Representatives from San Diego Housing Commission, National Veterans Transition Services, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation, and corporations like the San Diego Padres — including members who serve on SDCCE’s career technical advisory committees which inform curriculum based on industry trends — were also in attendance.
