SDCCE Welcomes Community for Cut and Sew Industry Summit

Project Runway Designer Korto Momolu will be the guest lecturer

Bulgarian Born Designer and SDCCE Clothing and Textile Arts Graduate, Vesela Deterline will be in attendance showcasing her brand, Tullevess.On Saturday, June 11, 2022, from 9:00am-3:30pm a Cut and Sew Industry Summit is being held at San Diego College of Continuing Education (SDCCE) for industry professionals and prospective students interested in clothing and textiles. Project Runway Designer Korto Momolu will be the guest lecturer, student designs will be on exhibit, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about SDCCE’s tuition-free clothing and textile certificate programs and tour the campus.

The free event will take place at West City Campus in Point Loma (3249 Fordham St., San Diego, CA 92110). Advanced reservations are required as seating is limited. Register here.

“The Cut and Sew Industry Summit will connect people from production to retailing of a variety of product types and services, along with career training providers in the cut and sew industry,” said Shirley Pierson, M.F.A., Program Chair for SDCCE’s Clothing and Textile Arts program. The summit will close with welcoming remarks from San Diego Community College District Chancellor Carlos O. Cortez, Ph.D.;a guest lecture by Korto Momolu; a student entrepreneur pitch event, and awards.

Saturday’s events are part of a two-day summit, which includes Friday, June 10, 2022, Afternoon Tea with SDCCE Makers and Entrepreneurs. Doors open from 12-5:30pm for current students, alumni, and prospective students. 

SDCCE is one of the state's largest providers of free workforce training and is a leader in sustainability. Students can pursue two free industry certificates at SDCCE including a Clothing Construction certificate and a Sewn Products Business certificate. Curriculum is focused on creating solutions for fast fashion and how to utilize recyclable materials that are better for the environment.
