SDCE Invites the Mountain View Community for Día De Los Muertos Celebration and Altar Competition Thursday, Nov. 1

San Diego Continuing Education students honor loved ones through traditional Día De Los Muertos Altars

San Diego Continuing Education (SDCE) will host its annual Día De Los Muertos celebration on Thursday, Nov. 1 at Educational Cultural Complex from 11:00am to 1:00pm. The event is open to the public and admission is free.

SDCE’s Associated Student Body will host an altar competition and costume contest. Students will make Altars or ofrendas using symbolic, cultural and educational elements including photographs of their loved ones as centerpieces.

Attendees can enjoy the altar presentations and partake in live entertainment; Vicky of Vicky Creations and SDCE Faculty, Roy Hernandez will design Día De Los Muertos face painting art, and Pop Up LA will host a photo booth. Diego FM 99.3 will be in attendance throughout the festivities.

“The multiculturalism of our faculty and students is one of our major strengths to impact the community,” stated Carlos O. Turner Cortez, Ph.D., President of SDCE. “We look forward to celebrating this tradition every year as we honor our loved ones.”

SDCE’s Día De Los Muertos celebration kicks off at 11:00 a.m., and Associated Students will begin the Altar Competition at 11:30 a.m. SDCE’s Educational Cultural Complex is located at 4343 Ocean View Blvd. San Diego, CA 92113.

SDCE is the adult education division of the San Diego Community College District and offers 70 free career training programs and pathways to employment, college, citizenship, high school diploma and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes.
