Tree-planting Ceremony, tree climbing, marks Arbor Day Celebration at San Diego College of Continuing Education

May 23, 2023

first-ever Arbor Day tree planting celebration at the historic Educational Cultural Complex on May 31, 2023.Every day is Arbor Day at the San Diego College of Continuing Education (SDCCE), which is why one of the region’s leading colleges for workforce training is celebrating its first-ever Arbor Day tree planting celebration at the historic Educational Cultural Complex on May 31, 2023.

Highlights include SDCCE President Dr. Tina M. King and college leaders planting a pair of coral trees on the north campus lawn, along with tree-climbing demonstrations by students in our 5-week Utility Line Clearance Arborist Training Program. Designed by industry experts and fully funded by a SDGE grant.  The Utility Line Clearance Arborist Training Program provides students with entry-level skills that an apprentice would learn in the first six months on the job.

The Arbor Day event is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. on the lawn of the Educational Cultural Complex at the northeast corner.  The campus is located at 4343 Ocean View Blvd., San Diego, CA 92113.

SDGE has been a long-time partner in regional urban forestry, supporting tree planting, offering tree-care best practices and providing education about the importance of trees.

While National Arbor Day is celebrated on the last Friday in April, many states observe Arbor Day on different dates, based on the best tree-planting times for their areas.

The Utility Line Clearance Arborist Training Program is recruiting now for the upcoming cohort, which begins November 6 and completes December 8. To learn more and to apply, please visit the Employee Training Institute website.
