Happy first day of the 2023 fall semester!

San Diego College of Continuing Education is home to 30,000 students who come from the most diverse backgrounds in California, including immigrants, refugees, Dreamers, first generation, and veterans. We are honored our students chose us to pursue their academic and professional goals. Students can find a Welcome Week table at their campus beginning September 5 through September 13.

This summer, our college has been working diligently to embark on a college-wide cultural climate change and to launch a new brand identity including new colors. This work is ongoing, though I am certain we are building a solid foundation to foster a sense of belonging for all SDCCE employees and students. I look forward to heading into the new academic year and witnessing first-hand the lives we transform together. Many exciting initiatives are underway at the SDCCE including Vision 2030: A Call to Action - Adult Education Summit, the student celebration of the new Student Lounge, brand training, professional development opportunities and more.

Please remind your students to check their SDCCD student email account for important college announcements and class information as well as SDCCE CARES for basic needs support and Disability Support Programs and Services (DSPS) for academic adjustments and modifications.

I wish you a great semester.

Campus Updates

I am pleased to announce myself and SDCCE (Dean Lucas and Kelly Henwood) are working with MTS and the City of San Diego to improve four bus stops surrounding the Educational Cultural Complex. We are ensuring ADA/accessibility improvements as well as adding new shelters and/or benches to stops. More information to come.

Currently the following bus stops do not have either a bench or shelter: Westbound Ocean View Blvd / 45th St #11365, Westbound Ocean View Blvd / Marketplace Ave #10982, Eastbound Ocean View Blvd / San Pasqual Dr #10603, and Eastbound Ocean View Blvd / Elizabeth St #10231.

Congratulations, Desiree “DeeDee” Redulla, Rocio Lopez, Carmen Martinez, Maria Macias, and Yvonne Schmeltz for being selected as participants for the Fall 2023 Supervisory Leadership Development Academy. The Professional Development Program provides participants with the tools and professional development that can be applied in current classification, and assists with career advancement goals and opportunities. The academy kicked off at North City Campus on September 1.

The activation of our new wireless (Wi-Fi) service at the Educational Cultural Complex (ECC) is now live. The designated network for the Educational Cultural Complex (ECC) and what will be the entire District, is identified as "SDCCD-Campus-Connect." Upon selecting this network, users will be prompted to authenticate their credentials by entering a registered email address and associated password. Upon successful authentication, users will gain seamless access not only within the ECC but also across all College of Continuing Education (CE) locations. Furthermore, this connectivity extends to Miramar, Mesa, City, the District Office, and the District Service Center. It is noteworthy to mention that full adoption across these locations is projected for completion later this fall. While this marks an important step for ECC, please rest assured that work is underway to expand these services across all College of Continuing Education campuses. Our goal is comprehensive: to remove the digital divide and offer equitable technology access across the board.

For more information on how to connect, setup instructions, and FAQs, please visit https://sdccd.edu/wifi,

This major technological milestone reflects our ongoing commitment to enhance the educational experience for our students, faculty, and staff. Well-done Dr. Peter Maharaj, VP Jackie Sabanos, and the ITS Network team!
