We appreciate Esteban for his dedication to fostering inclusion and equity. Under his leadership, the committee is breaking barriers and creating opportunities for meaningful engagement, especially for historically marginalized communities. President's Updates

It was an honor to serve as a keynote speaker alongside Dr. Lynn Neault at the San Diego Chapter of the American Association for Women of Community Colleges Annual Summit, titled Women Elevating Women. Not only did I have the opportunity to share my story, but I was also thrilled to celebrate and recognize our exceptional SDCCE Woman of the Year Awardees: Michele Madrid Novak, Aimee Serrano, Debi King, and Nida Pierre. Congratulations to all of the awardees, and a heartfelt thank you to the SDCAAWCC board and President Noora Al Saegh for organizing such a wonderful event.
The Research Corner
This week, we invite you to explore the report Community College and the Experiences of LGBTQ People. This report from UCLA Williams Institute explores the experiences of LGBTQ community college students in the US. Specifically, it seeks to explain why community colleges tend to be disproportionately difficult and dangerous for LGBTQ students when compared to the experiences of non-LGBTQ students, and it suggests that the most effective way to make a community college safer for LGBTQ students is to have programs supporting LGBTQ people ran and, more importantly, promoted by the college. Please take a minute to review this resource and email jsalcedo001@sdccd.edu if you have any questions.
