Dear SDCCE Community,
On April 17, 2025, we shared positive news that the District approved funding to support approximately $900,000 in costs for our Instructional Assistants (IAs) and Instructional Lab Technicians (ILTs). This important step allows us to transition these positions to the General Fund Unrestricted (GFU) budget, increases our ongoing allocation through the Campus Allocation Model (CAM), and helps ensure compliance with the 50% law. It also directly aligns with the President’s goal of equalizing funding with the credit colleges.
Even with the transition of Instructional Assistants (IAs) and Instructional Lab Technicians (ILTs) from restricted funding sources such as WIOA and CAEP, we continue to face significant financial challenges. Our overall expenses remain over budget, necessitating difficult decisions for the upcoming fiscal year. As part of our broader efforts to stabilize the budget, we need to reduce the number of NANCE employees across the college. This change aligns with practices at other colleges in the district. For those continuing with us, a reduction in available hours will also be necessary in 2025–2026.
We understand how difficult the reduction in NANCE employees is for our teams, and we remain committed to managing this transition thoughtfully. As part of our strategy to offset the impact of reduced NANCE employees, we have made the decision to delay the hiring of the Special Projects Manager position (currently under recruitment) in order to prioritize the hiring of two permanent full-time Instructional Assistant positions focused on supporting the English as a Second Language (ESL) program, particularly in the areas of enrollment and assessment. Additionally, we are reviewing other positions that could offer similar support and exploring opportunities to bring on additional classified professionals to directly serve our students and address key instructional and enrollment needs as we transition away from reliance on temporary NANCE roles.
We hope this message provides clarity and transparency regarding the reduction of NANCE employees and outlines the steps we are taking to realign resources in ways that strengthen support for our students and instructional programs moving forward.
Thank you for your commitment and understanding as we continue to move forward as a college.
Best,
