Dear SDCCE Community,
I’m pleased to share that we have received funding from the District to cover approximately $900,000 in costs associated with our Instructional Assistants (IAs) and Instructional Lab Technicians (ILTs). This is a positive step forward and reflects the District’s support of our request to move these positions by transitioning them to the General Fund Unrestricted (GFU), increasing our college’s funding to the Campus Allocation Model going forward, and investing in instructional expenses for 50% law compliance. This development is also in perfect alignment with one of the President’s Goals to equalize funding to the credit colleges.
While this marks significant progress, we are still working to recover from a longstanding structural deficit within the Campus Allocation Model (CAM) and the restricted funding sources. We will take this as a victory, but our internal work is not done. We remain committed to stabilizing our overall college-wide budget through the following: advocating for restricted funds through Assembly Bill 1433, developing and implementing a holistic budget plan, and seeking additional funds through grants and community partnerships.
We will continue with the planned reductions in the number of NANCE employees and are also actively assessing reassigned time within all restricted funding sources. Given the ongoing uncertainty around future budgets—particularly for those tied to federal funds—we are proceeding prudently and with long-term sustainability in mind.
A heartfelt thank you to our entire college for your advocacy and engagement throughout this process. Thank you, Chancellor Smith, for your ongoing support and commitment to SDCCE, and Vice Chancellor Troy for your continued partnership.
#ForwardTogether
Best,
