This past weekend marked the 32nd anniversary of National Coming Out Day — a day observed on the anniversary of the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. The demonstration made LGBTQ+ rights a national issue, banning discrimination based on sexual orientation and increasing visibility of the community.
Hate crimes and systemic discrimination for people who identify as LGBTQ+ remain at the forefront of American culture. Though not everyone can safely voice coming out, every person who speaks up and shares their story changes more hearts and minds for equal rights and acceptance.
Coming out is a deeply personal experience, and it is different for everyone. San Diego Continuing Education serves one of the most diverse populations of students in the nation. Faculty, classified professionals, and administrators have made it a top priority to create inclusive and accepting environments for every student in every classroom and every employee in every workspace.
Please join me on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 12 p.m. (noon) for SDCE’s National Coming Out Day Speaker Series with special guests: the legendary Tammie Brown of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Rebekah J.
