by Richard Weinroth, Academic Senate President
The November 17, 2015, Academic Senate Meeting at ECC had the distinct honor and privilege of a visit from Judith Heiman, the community college analyst, and Natasha Collins, a K-12 analyst from the State Legislative Analyst Office (LAO). The LAO is a nonpartisan government agency known for its fiscal and programmatic expertise and nonpartisan analysis of the state budget.
The LAO representatives were in San Diego to visit area community colleges and two of the regional consortia working on AB86 and AB104. Ms. Heiman and Ms. Collis said they hoped to learn more about the work of these organizations so they can better advise the state on related budget and policy issues. The SDCE Senate shared concerns including:
1. Parent Education and Older Adult inclusion in the AEBG is limited and
2. SDCE’s ability to provide current, relevant courses, especially CTE, is impaired by the delay in approving curriculum at the Chancellor’s level.
The Senate was grateful for this unique opportunity!
