AEBG/SDAERC Update

by Rachel Rose

San Diego Adult Education Regional Consortium (SDAERC) had a productive public board meeting where the Year 2 plan was approved and Year 2 allocation funding of $4,445,071.00 for 2016/2017 was accepted.  The Consortium, consisting of two members, divided the allocation according to State guidelines awarding San Diego Continuing Education with $2,823,332 and San Diego Unified School District with $1,621,739 to accomplish the goals of Year 2. As of 2016/17, San Diego Unified Adult School will not receive Maintenance of Effort (MOE) dollars making the Adult Education Block Grant allocation their sole funding source of state funding.

Additionally, the Board approved the revised Director Consultant Agreement for SDAERC, awarding Susan Yamate another year as director, facilitator, organizer, and liaison for the Consortium. The changing needs of the Consortium led to a prudent reorganization of the scope of work assigned to the Director position.

In alignment with the faculty driven AB 86 plan finalized March of 2015, the Adult Education Block Grant funds from 2015/2016 became one strand of funding that enabled SDCE with other fund strands braided into the effort, to create its first ever New Contract Faculty Academy which will provide a year of onboarding professional development to over 30 new contract faculty.
