The Business & Information Technology Department held a successful Career Mixer on May 21, 2019, at the North City Campus, with about 150 students attending. These students came from our assorted certificate programs within the disciplines of Information Technology and Digital Media, who are starting or furthering their careers.
Attendees asked questions and received advice from a panel made up of local recruiters and employers: Manpower IT, Proven Recruiting, Flashpoint Marketing, Cody Brown Design, Robert Half Technology, and a Cybersecurity expert.
They then met individually or in small groups with the panelists, to learn about specific opportunities and make industry connections. Attendees also received personalized advice on job hunting from the SDCE Career Center and learned to share their experiences in job interviews by learning from storytelling consultant Nathan Young.
Participants reported that they made valuable connections and learned useful skills, including how to start networking, how to most effectively connect with recruiters both in person and online, and how to craft their career narrative for effective career development.
