CalWorks Serving More Students

The CalWORKs Program at SDCE provides high quality services to students by providing educational, career, and work study opportunities combined with a range of supportive services, including personal counseling and career advice, development of an individual training plan, assistance with securing childcare, transportation, ancillary services, referrals to other campus services and community resources.

Through this effort, CalWORKs students receive the support they need to reach their academic and career goals, transition to college, and find meaningful employment.

In Fiscal Year 2016-17, the CalWORKs program served approximately 1,699 students throughout all campuses, out of this total, an estimate of 849 CalWORKs students enrolled in ESL/VESL, 509 in Vocational Training Programs, and 341 in GED/High School Diploma/Basic Skills programs.

Recognizing that no single program acting alone can significantly address the multiple and pressing needs of our CalWORKs student population, the CalWORKs program is invested in working collaboratively with other student services on campus and in the community.
