From Classified Senate

The Classified Senate is busily preparing to participate in a variety of programs and initiatives throughout the academic year. At its most recent meeting, the Senate moved to create a Community Outreach Committee, dedicated to finding projects and lending support to various programs in the Greater San Diego region. If you would like to assist this committee in its work, contact Charlene Shurtleff or Neill Kovrig. Additionally, the Classified Hiring Priority (CHP) Committee is meeting again, and will begin the process of integrating the CHP list into the overall Strategic Plan as envisioned by President Turner Cortez.

Our Classified Senate is further honored to be on the radar at the State level and two members are currently serving on State Chancellor's Office Committees: President Neill Kovrig serves as a Classified representative to the Institutional Effectiveness Partnership Initiative Advisory Committee and Policy Workgroup; and Senator-at-Large Christy Figueroa-Pettis serves as a Classified representative on the SSSP Noncredit Advisory Committee. Both serve on appointment from the California Community Colleges Classified Senate, our statewide organization. Furthermore, Vice-President Mary LeDuc was recently recognized as Classified Member of the Year by the Council of Classified Employees, the Classified council of the California Federation of Teachers.

As we move forward into the remainder of this academic year, all Classified staff are encouraged to get involved, whether by participating in one of the many shared governance committees we have, or by serving on a hiring committee, or by lending a hand with community outreach or fundraising--there is a place for everyone!
