Congressman Scott Peters Thanksgiving

Students at the SDCE Gateway to College and Career enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings on Tuesday the 13th of November through the gracious donation of Congressman Scott Peters.  Gateway students work hard to overcome barriers that stand in the way of their success with their education and their careers. Gateway students and their families were treated to a Thanksgiving meal to start off the season of gratitude.  For many of the students this may be the only holiday meal that they enjoy. 20% of the students are homeless at this time.  Student Ambassador, Brian Barrera, said “I’m excited to have Thanksgiving with my Gateway family today.  We work hard every day to improve our lives and accomplish our goals. I feel very lucky to be having Thanksgiving with my own family next week.” Congressman Peters offered to support the meal because he is keenly aware of the challenges that too many disenfranchised youth face when attempting to overcome barriers like housing, food, transportation, domestic violence, justice involvement and more. These young adults’ efforts to transcend such challenges by taking pathways toward self-sufficiency and well-being are an inspiration to all.  “The staff and students of Gateway to College and Career are deeply grateful to Congressman Scott Peters for supporting our program and allowing us to celebrate together,” said Dr. Laurie Coskey, Executive Director.  More Photos: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmmWZgXU
