Mid-City Campus holds an annual resource fair to provide students with the opportunity to gather information on valuable supportive services available in the community. This event is a collaborative project involving student services and instruction.
Lydia Hammett, ESL APC, provided a packet for instructors with sample student activities for use before, during and after the fair. Classes moved through the lobby at assigned times asking questions and gathering information for fourteen agencies and two Continuing Education programs. Those represented included Center for Community Solutions, Center for Community Counseling & Engagement, City Heights Weingart Library, Consumer Center/Legal Aid, Employee Rights Center, Family Health Centers of San Diego, International Rescue Committee, Metro Region American Job Centers, Mid-City Division Police, CE Student Equity, CE New Horizons, San Diego Family Care, San Diego Futures Foundation, Union of Pan Asian Communities, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Women’s Empowerment International.
Lunch for agency representatives followed the fair and included a program about SDCE including presentations on courses offered in ESL, Basic Skills, High School/High School Equivalency and Business Information Technology. In addition, information was given about services offered students such as counseling, New Horizons, Student Equity and CalWORKS. Two student speakers shared their educational experience at Mid-City along with their future goals.
