President Turner Cortez Invited to Participate in NALEO Statewide Policy Institute

SDCE President Carlos O. Turner Cortez, Ph.D. was invited to attend the NALEO California Statewide Policy Institute on Higher Education: Leadership to Meet the Needs of the 21st Century on September 22-23, 2017 in Carlsbad, California. NALEO Educational Fund is the nation’s leading 501(c) (3) non-profit, non-partisan organization that facilitates full Latino participation in the American political process, from citizenship to public service.

The country’s future economic prosperity must include Latino students being able to earn a quality postsecondary degree or certification that will enable them to continue to drive long term economic growth for the state and the nation. California is home to over 15 million Latinos and this Policy Institute will provide state policymakers with an opportunity to learn best practices and exchange policies and ideas that foster the mobilization of Latinos in higher education, and examine the robust economic implications driven from higher education attainment.

Founded in 1981, NALEO Educational Fund achieves its mission through integrated strategies that include increasing the effectiveness of Latino policymakers, mobilizing the Latino community to engage in civic life and promoting policies that advance Latino political engagement. Participation in the Policy Institute was by invitation only. More
