President's Update

Over the past several months I have attended and participated in numerous conferences and workshops throughout the state and across the nation to support advocacy work and innovative initiatives that impact our work in noncredit education.

At the Opportunity Youth Incentive Fund Convening (OYIF) meeting in Aspen, I heard of best practices in how to build successful community collaboratives that will help SDCE attract more opportunity youth, specially in support of the new San Diego Gateway to College and Career program launching in the spring. The CAEL International Conference in Chicago also supported this effort, and additionally was a chance to examine new ways to partner with not only community organizations but also our credit colleges, in support of accelerating student success.

Most recently, as a member of the CCLC’s Advisory Committee on Legalization, I attended the CCLC annual convention in Riverside. As you may know, CCLC is the primary advocacy body representing the community college system in California, and I participate on CCLC's Advisory Committee on Legislation as an advocate for noncredit education and equity. Also, I attend the annual CEO meeting for community college CEOs in the state.
