Safe Zone Training

On October 23, faculty, staff, administrators and students from SDCE gathered at CE Mesa campus to participate in a “train the trainer” workshop to create a “Safe Zones” program for our students. The program was presented by the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley, and consisted of activities, small group discussions, and other opportunities to raise awareness of the issues faced by Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) students on our campuses and to help us create safe spaces on our campuses for our LGBT students.

As a result of the workshop, we now have 31 certified “trainers” at SDCE, and those trainers will begin offering workshops at our campuses to share what they learned. Look for announcements coming soon about trainings that will begin after the first of the year.
