SDCE proudly receives the League for Innovation in the Community College 2018 Innovation of the Year Award
San Diego Continuing Education (SDCE) has been awarded the prestigious “League for Innovation in Community Colleges 2018 Innovation of the Year Award” for partnership with the San Diego Rescue Mission (SDRM) for the Rising to Success Pathways pilot program.
SDCE has partnered with SDRM to offer free classes and career training to some of the most vulnerable populations in San Diego.
The partnership includes free classes held at the SDRM specific to the needs of the SDRM clients, such as parent education classes, high school diploma equivalency preparation classes, and business information classes that teach basic computer skills and software.
Additionally, SDRM has selected clients to participate in a program that transports the clients to a SDCE campus so student can attend on-campus career training programs including HVAC, plumbing, office skills and welding. Students in these programs completed a Career and College Readiness course at SDRM prior to enrolling in the on-campus programs.
The objective of this partnership is to train and place SDRM clients in industry-related jobs. Students are completing certificates that will lead directly to work.

Thank you to SDCE faculty, classified professionals, administrators, community partners, and students who made the spring 2018 pilot an award winning success. Now, SDCE will focus on scaling the program.
