Elizabeth Acierno
Ms. Acierno earned a BA degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Southern California, an MA degree in Math Education from New York University, and is currently a PhD candidate at the University of California at Santa Barbara. Ms. Acierno has over 12 years of experience teaching math and science (grades 8th-12th) in New York, New York for the Salk School of Science, Institute for Collaborative Education and The La Salle Academy. Ms. Acierno has written and implemented curriculum, and assessed and evaluated student progress. She has presented at the 2012 and 2013 CCTE (California Council on Teacher Education) conferences. This educational preparation is a good fit to teach various ABE/ASE/HSDP courses, incorporate technology into the classroom and assess the program’s instructional practices. Welcome!
Carrie Lewis, RN
Carrie Lewis began in her fulltime assignment as a contract faculty member on March 14, 2016 in the role of Acute Care Instructor/Coordinator. Carrie has been an Adjunct Instructor in the Healthcare Careers program since 2010, and will focus her efforts on establishing and implementing SDCE’s Nurse Assistant Acute Care certificate, which will provide students with competitive and valuable training in preparation for jobs in hospitals and other acute care settings.
Carrie’s first task will be to build partnerships with both Sharp and Scripps Hospitals and other appropriate healthcare facilities. The first Acute Care class will be offered in May, 2016.
Carrie earned an RN degree in 1996, and has an extensive background working in long term care facilities as a Resident Care Manager. Additionally, Carrie worked as intravenous therapy RN, and a compliance officer doing chart audits and review in a management position at South West Washington Medical Center in Washington State.
Carrie is proud to share that her parents are educators and her father retired from teaching at Walla Walla Community College in Washington state, where he taught both Computers and English for ESL students. Carrie has a great love of education and community service, and is eager to use her expertise to give back to the community in new and significant ways.
John Louie
John Louie has earned a California Teaching Credential from California State University Long Beach, an AA degree in Automotive Technology from San Joaquin Delta College, 4 (four) ASE Certifications and 9 (nine) I-CAR Certifications.
Additionally, Mr. Louie has over 12 years of teaching experience as an Auto Body Repair Instructor, and over 8 years as an Automotive Mechanics Instructor at Long Beach Community College, Rio Hondo College, and El Camino College.
Mr. Louie’s educational and leadership prepares him to teach various Auto Body components and expand into the newer techniques working on aluminum frames, incorporate technology into the classroom and assess the program’s potential for becoming NATEF certified, a challenge feat in California for Auto Body departments.
Mr. Louie is passionate about helping his students succeed and knows how to expand the business connections with the Auto Body shops in San Diego who can advise and support our Auto Body training. He will be a wonderful addition to the Career Technical Education faculty of Continuing Education.
Liz Trevino
Ms. Trevino has MBA and BS degrees from the University of Phoenix in Business Administration, and an AA degree in Occupational Studies/Culinary Arts from the California Culinary Academy. Ms. Trevino has worked for the Art Institute as an Chef instructor, an Executive Sous Chef for the Hilton Oceanfront Resort and Spa, Chef de Cuisine for Cruise West Alaska, Chef de Partie for Prontos Market and, as a Banquet Chef for the Four Seasons Aviara. Ms. Trevino has also owned her own Catering business. Welcome!
Leslie Quinones
