Alberto (Beto) Vasquez

Alberto “Beto” Vasquez is a recent graduate from the University California, San Diego where he acquired a Masters degree in biology. Beto is a first-generational college student and a father of four. As an adult reentry student and as a minority student in the sciences, Beto is committed to growing as a professional in higher education and facilitating the student experience. He has years of experience conducting outreach through multiple roles and is well-versed with the credit side of our district, both as an employee with the San Diego City College Outreach Department and also as a former student. In addition, his role as a Community Representative for San Diego City Councilmember David Alvarez, has familiarized and equipped him to leverage and develop relationships within community groups to address community needs and better serve prospective students.

Beto's resources and networks will allow him the opportunity to educate the public about the accessibility and affordability of higher education and create the necessary collaborations to effectively establish SDCE's first-ever Outreach Department. He has much experience working directly with underrepresented groups and has helped to develop programs serving disenfranchised populations. Beto’s student-centered approach will serve to complement the vision of CE, facilitating our growth and streamlining the process for prospective students. He continues to serve as a mentor for community college and university students, and is a huge educational advocate and proponent of education and STEM fields. Off campus, Beto works with nonprofits and serves on advisory boards, he is constantly looking to creating opportunities to serve community and create the necessary partnerships to meet the needs of marginalized groups.
