Aldamay Rudisuhli, English as a Second Language

Ms. Rudisuhli has been teaching for the San Diego Continuing Education's (SDCE) ESL Program since 2013 and prior to this taught for SDCE from 1979 to 1986.  Aldamay taught in Switzerland from 1986 to 2011 in the areas of Vocational ESL, Spanish, English, and designed various types of curriculum.   Additionally,  she taught a reading and writing in the ESL Program  at Grossmont College District  in El Cajon, CA.  Ms. Rudisuhli earned her M.A. in Applied Linguistics (TESL) at San Diego  University in San Diego, CA . She also has a B.A. in Spanish with a Minor in Humanities and French from SDSU.  Aldamay has a California Community College Credential, a Certificate of Qualification for Teachers of Classes for Adults, and a California Standard  Secondary credential.  Ms. Rudisuhli completed her SDCCD Online Faculty Certification in 2016.  She recently has taught an Advanced Pre-Vocational class for SDCE that combines ESL and occupational  skills preparing learners  for the workforce. Aldamay participated in the SDCE Accreditation on a focus  group, is a member of the VESL Committee, a member of SDCE Teachers Using Technology, a member of the Textbook committee and a member of the Learner Persistence committee. 

 

Mariana Silva, English as a Second Language

Ms. Silva has been teaching ESL at MiraCosta College at the Community Learning Center in Oceanside, CA since 2013.  Prior to this she taught ESL at Marsa Technical High School in Sibiu, Romania. She has taught all levels of ESL and VESL soft skills for the workplace and has curriculum design experience. She was also an Instructional Assistant and Spanish Tutor at MiraCosta College.  Mariana  has currently been involved in various committees at Mira Costa college such as the Courses and Program Curriculum Committee, Expressions Committee and the National Adult Education Honors Society.  Ms. Silva is involved with several recent community service  events at MiraCosta College and  also assisted with the San Diego CATESOL Conference in 2016.   Mariana has two Masters degrees. She earned her M.A. in Education with a CTEL Certificate and a Multicultural Specialist Certificate from the California State University of San Marcos, CA  and she as an additional M.A. in Translations Studies with a concentration in English  from the Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, Romania.  Ms. Silva earned her B.A. in English and Romanian at the Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, Romania. She also has a TESOL Certificate from the University of California San Diego, Extended Studies.  

 

Jeffrey Strack, English as a Second Language

 Jeffrey Strack has been teaching at the CUNY Hostos Community College in Bronx, New York since 2016 and prior to this he taught at the CUNY Brooklyn College.  Mr. Strack has experience teaching as an elementary school instructor and as an adult ESL instructor in both the community colleges and other adult school programs for over 15 years.  Jeff has taught all levels of ESL, VESL and used multiple instructional technology and virtual learning platforms.  He has developed curriculum for all levels of ESL and designed ESL assessments. Jeffrey is a member of the New York State TESOL Association, and the TESOL International Association.  Mr. Strack earned his Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from The City University of New York (CUNY), Hunter College where he was a  recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award in Adult ESL. He also has B.A. in History Education and Elementary Education from the Whitworth University in Spokane, WA. Jeff has a University of Cambridge ESOL Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA).  

 

Jessica Varnado-Swall, English as a Second Language

Ms. Varnado-Swall has been teaching in San Diego Continuing Education's (SDCE) ESL Program since 2014 and prior to this she taught at San Diego State University as a Writing and Rhetoric Instructor.  Jessica has also taught for the Southern State University in La Jolla, CA , the UCSD Extension Language  Institute as an ESL Instructor and at the Huaihai Institute of Technology in Lianyungang, China. Jessica has been on the SDCE ESL Learner Persistence Committee and she has designed and implemented computer assisted  language learning opportunities for students to complement and reinforce learning goals while teaching at SDCE in the ESL Program.  Ms. Varnado-Swall earned her M.A. in Applied Linguistics /TESL at San Diego State University in San Diego.  She has received an advanced certificate in Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language  at SDSU.  She received her B.A. in History and Japanese Studies at the University of California , San Diego,CA.
