January 8, 2024

Dear SDCCE Community,

This Sunday, January 14th marks for the 42nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. parade. Our college will proudly march alongside the SDCCD to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King. We hope you and your family can join us.

The yearly Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade is deeply significant to our college. We take great pride in the history of the origins of the MLK Parade that was started many years ago by pillars in our community at the Educational Cultural Complex. This year’s competition float designed by SDCCE’s welding students under the direction of Welding Instructor, Mike Bradbury, will feature late artist Rossie Wade, former Treasurer and President of the San Diego Fine Arts Guild. Wade is an unsung hero who believed in cultivating the love and essence of the Black family, art, and education for all.

Come share your college pride this weekend! I look forward to seeing you at the Parade. Students, faculty, staff, community members, families and friends are invited to participate.

Please consider donating to a fantastic cause! On Saturday, March 23, 2024, for National Brain Injury Month, students and faculty from San Diego College of Continuing Education's Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Programs are walking together to raise funds and awareness for San Diego Brain Injury Foundation’s (SDBIF’s) 17th annual surviveHEADSTRONG Walk for Recovery. The event will take place from 8:00am to 1:00pm at De Anza Cove in North Mission Bay.

Thanks to Heike Kessler-Heiberg, SDCCE's ABI Professor and the Team ABI captain, our college's Team ABI has always been a top fundraiser — so let’s do it again this year! We walk/roll, advocate, educate, celebrate and achieve more together as a team.

Your donations can help make it possible for brain injury survivors to enroll in college, resume living independently, write their story, participate in life-long learning, volunteer in the community, get back into the workforce, improve the quality of their life, and most importantly, regain a sense of self.
