Dear SDCCE Community,

The face of noncredit is changing! I recently submitted a noncredit reform package to our state chancellor with the support of our legislative lobbyist. Last week I joined SDCCD leaders and our district's student trustees to participate in state and federal advocacy in Washington, D.C., where we lobbied in front of elected officials to educate people across our state to understand the importance of adult education and for more funding to be allocated toward various academic programs such as the San Diego Promise. Our advocacy is critical during this time... it is so important that we sit at the table!

SDCCE proudly recognizes February as Career Education Month. We will be joining the California Community Colleges Chancellor's office and our district to promote our career education pathways. You may have seen ads running already with our new branding, "let's dream together" to encourage every adult learner in need of economic upward mobility to start their career and college path at SDCCE.

Additionally, filming for the upcoming WASC Accreditation is underway. Thank you to our Deans, College Operations Supervisor's, and staff for your support! This is a critical initiative for our college and our district.

In December, ESL Professor Ingrid Greenberg started teaching a multi-level English as a Second Language (ESL) for Parents course at Hoover High School two evenings a week. The course enrolled 53 students and due to the large number SDCCE is working with Hoover staff and ESL Family Literacy Coordinator, Ildi Carrillo, to create a second class for beginning English learners.

Amidst the beginning of the spring semester, SDCCE held the first in-person ESL class at West City Campus in four years, 28 students are enrolled, and the number is continuing to increase. Kudos to the ESL department!
