Dear SDCCE Community,

On April 10th, San Diego College of Continuing Education received the Honorable Mention Project award for our Noncredit to Credit Alignment Lab (NCAL) Project— (A Framework to Equity for Noncredit Students) from the The Research and Planning Group for California Community Colleges (The RP Group). This work has truly been a labor of love for the past two years. Our college and district has worked intentionally to create noncredit pathways to our 3 sister credit colleges, City, Mesa, and Miramar, to ensure our students are able to continue their educational journey. The beauty of this work is that it is lead by the practitioners who are actually doing the work! Thank you to the leadership team, deans and faculty throughout the district for supporting our Noncredit to credit pathways. Stay tuned for the work to come for noncredit pathways at SDCCE! Learn more about the award here. In case you missed it, watch our NCAL video here and view conference photos here.

Additionally, in regards to the January 22nd campus flooding, we received confirmation from District Facilities Services that all abatement work required to remove water damaged spaces has been completed. All the areas were tested post abatement and received passing scores. The relevant reports are on file. We are currently in the process of restoration work that includes replacing drywall, patching, and painting. When this work is completed, the flooring will be scheduled. The plastic on the doors leading into the main building hallway will remain in place to prevent access into the hallway during the restoration phase. The work is expected to be completed by the end of May, however, may continue into late June. Campus Safety is our priority. Thank you for patience during this unprecedented time.

The rebuilding of the Rossie Wade ‘Black Family’ statue at the Educational Cultural Complex was featured over the weekend by the San Diego Union Tribune, 'Two sculptures became symbols of racial unity for a San Diego community. Now, local students are recreating them.' Our very own welding instructor, Mike Bradbury, and our welding students led the making of the sculpture.

President's Updates

On April 11th, I presented SDCCE's Basic Needs Special Study to the SDCCD Board of Trustees with our Basic Needs Coordinator Jessica De Koekkoek and student Kirido Goodrich. We highlighted SDCCE CARES, our comprehensive basic needs program, which helps students meet fundamental needs of food, housing, transportation, technology, childcare, health care, and mental wellness. Since being launched in the 2022-2023 academic year, our SDCCE CARES program has continued to expand. Stay tuned for more updates!

The Research Corner

This week we invite you to check the California School Dashboard. This dashboard portrays data about educational agencies looking at their strengths, challenges, and improvement areas. It can be filtered down to local levels, including San Diego Unified, which is a key partner to SDCCE. The dashboard may be found on the following link. Take a minute to review this resource and email if you have any questions.
