  • SDCCE proudly welcomed SDCCD Board of Trustee member, Craig Milgrim, to Mid-City Campus and West City Campus. Special thank you to Dean Howell, Dean Jarrell, and Dean Krauss for showing Trustee Milgrim a warm welcome to SDCCE.
  • I enjoyed being the keynote speaker at this year’s 2023 College is for Me! Conference at CSU San Marcos. The Early Assessment Program (EAP) at CSU San Marcos did a phenomenal job hosting an event with over 400 attendees. It was wonderful to highlight alternative opportunities offered within the community college system such as noncredit, career technical education, apprenticeship programs at the SDCCE.
  • SDCCE is listed among Developing Industry-Focused Job Pathways for Community Colleges for a new program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Education.
  • Local and state partners on April 20 will be at the Educational Cultural Complex assisting with Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) eligibility. Partners will be sending communications and marketing to community members in regional zip codes.
  • SDCCE’s Administrative Services is working with the SDCCE Welding Department, the Mountain View Park Coalition, and San Diego City Council President Pro Tem Monica Montgomery Steppe’s office to restore two Rossie Wade sculptures in the Mountain View community. One of the sculptures is located at the Educational Cultural Complex.
  • SDCCE's Public Information Office has created a new Project Management System that requires all requests for graphics, photos, and videos to be submitted via a new Project Request Form. All requests must be approved by your respective Dean or Vice President. Please allow two weeks for routine requests. Submit a request here.

The Research Corner

President King has continuously worked on addressing and assessing the culture at SDCCE. We recognize that we are a decentralized college with 7 campuses with 7 unique cultures. The Office of Planning, Research, and Institutional Effectiveness (PRIE) is launching a survey to assess the Employee Cultural Climate at SDCCE. For the first time the survey will be disaggregated by campus. The survey aims to gather valuable insights about your work experience, interactions with your supervisors and colleagues, your perceptions of the cultural and campus climate, and your overall satisfaction as a CE employee. Your feedback will be vital in helping us identify areas of improvement and create a more inclusive and supportive work environment. The survey will be launched today, and you can expect to receive an email invitation from the PRIE team soon (). I encourage you to take the time to complete the survey, as your input will be invaluable in shaping the future of our organization.

Additionally, we invite you to check out a resource developed by our partners from Centers of Excellence for Labor Market Research, the 2022 Childcare Industry Workforce Needs Study. This report contains historical and projected labor market data to better understand employment trends for Childcare and Early Childhood Education Occupations, demand and supply of childcare facilities, and landscape of Business Owners in the industry. Take a minute to review this resource and email jrivas@sdccd.edu if you have any questions.

Last week, at the 2023 Research and Planning Conference held in San Francisco, the Office of Planning, Research and Institutional Effectiveness had the opportunity to present in two sessions as showcase the innovative work we are doing here at SDCCE. Juan Salcedo, Research Associate, and Jesus Rivas, Research and Planning Analyst, had a full room where they shared some of their experiences in managing SDCCE's Data Coaching ecosystem and consolidating a data-informed culture in the institution. Their insightful presentation was well-received and sparked lively discussions among attendees. In addition, Jesus Rivas participated in a panel for Institutional Research newcomers, where he shared advice and insights from his work at SDCCE. His participation in this panel further exemplified the expertise and knowledge we have here at SDCCE and the leadership role we are taking in the field of institutional research.
