Dear SDCCE Community,

At San Diego College of Continuing Education, family is very important to us. With sincere appreciation, I would like to wish all of our moms and mother figures who are dear to our hearts a Happy Mother’s Day!

I would also like to extend love and light for those grieving the loss of their beloved mother and children.

Being a mother is my greatest joy and being the daughter of a great woman is a gift. My mother, who believed in the transformative power of education, raised me and my five siblings while going back to school in her 30s' at a noncredit institution in Los Angeles to earn a high school diploma/equivalency and a certificate in management. The certificate opened doors for my mom to begin working at a Los Angeles Unified School District cafeteria 30 years ago, where she will be retiring in a couple more years as manager.

Like many students who enroll at the SDCCE to better their lives and the lives of their children, my mother’s achievement changed my entire family's trajectory. She is the driving force behind my long-term career in academia.
