Dear SDCCE Community,
Happy Classified Professionals Week! This week is a special reminder of just how fortunate we are to work alongside such dedicated and passionate individuals. Our annual Classified Professionals Awards event is always a heartfelt celebration—an opportunity to honor those who have given so much of themselves in service to our college and district. Many have been with us for over five years, and some for more than 20 or even 30 years. Your commitment, care, and contributions make a lasting impact, and we are deeply grateful for all that you do.

Additionally, just last week we hosted summer enrollment fairs, the Lavender Celebration, the Rites of Passage Ceremony, and our 2nd Annual Mental Health Fair. Now we’re approaching our next major milestone: Commencement on June 6, 2025!
These collective efforts and achievements reflect our deep commitment to supporting every aspect of the student experience—from wellness to access to academic and career success. At the core of it all is our unwavering advocacy for the recognition of adult education as a powerful force for transforming lives.

Safety, Inclusion, and Belonging (SIB) Task Force Updates
At San Diego College of Continuing Education, we are committed to maintaining a campus environment that fosters inclusivity, equity, and respect for all individuals, regardless of their background or immigration status. The SIB Task Force was created to develop actionable steps to enhance support for our students in the current social climate. As a Task Force we are working on the current initiatives:
- We’re Here to Stay Program – A new effort focused on supporting students facing immigration-related challenges.
- Immigration Resources – Centralized access to information and tools addressing a wide range of immigration needs.
- Informational Events – A series of sessions hosted by SIB sub-committees to help students navigate immigration systems.
- Campus-Wide Resource List – A comprehensive guide to services, including asylum, parole, and legal support.
- Legal Consultations – One-on-one legal guidance, with $150 provided for the first session and discounted rates for ongoing representation.
I look forward to our next meeting to further important conversations in achieving these goals.
We’re excited to highlight our partnership with Kearny High School, where co-enrolled students earn a certificate through our School-Age Care & Leadership program in Child Development.
Special thanks to student Melida Angulo for sharing her experience, and to Dean Myesha Jackson, Dr. Rachel Rose, and Candice Fee for their dedication to supporting this valuable collaboration.

We’ve officially wrapped up our Coffee & Chat – Q&A Sessions across all seven campuses! Thank you to everyone who joined the conversations, shared insights, and helped build stronger connections across our community.
While the series has concluded, I’m still eager to hear your thoughts. Feedback and suggestions are always welcome—whether during the President’s Walk Around the Park or through the anonymous sharing box. Your voice matters, and I look forward to continuing the conversation.

The Research Corner
This week, we invite you to explore the article Students on Media Literacy and How Colleges Can Help, in 6 Charts. This is an article based on a survey of college and university students on students' perception of their own media literacy, the media literacy of their peers, the source of their news, how skeptical they are of those sources, their practices when engaging with those sources, and their opinions on how colleges and universities could between help train and teach students to have better media literacy. You can read the full article at the following link: Students on media literacy and how colleges can help. Please take a minute to review this resource and email jsalcedo001@sdccd.edu if you have any questions.
