Happy Friday, SDCCE.

This week, I began a three-week tour of SDCCE campuses and will host a Coffee and Chat session during each visit. This is an opportunity for me to meet many of our students, faculty, and classified professionals directly, and to share information about campus-specific events and opportunities.

The first event was at our Educational Cultural Complex (ECC) Campus. It was wonderful to learn more about our amazing college and programs! A special thanks to Dean Lucas and Lisa Munoz, and the faculty and classified professionals for their hospitality and support in giving me a first-hand tour of our ECC Campus. During my tour I met many of the great folks who support our students. Thank you all for sharing your passion with me!

The remaining schedule for the Coffee and Chat sessions:

  • 7/18 NCC 10:00 a.m.
  • 8/1 MCC 10:00 a.m.
  • 8/3 CE MESA 9:00 a.m.
  • 8/4 Chavez 11:00 a.m.
  • 8/19 WCC 9:00 a.m.

I want to share a few exciting updates happening at SDCCE:

Vice President Carter will present to the City Council’s COVID-19 Response and Recovery Committee on the measures that SDCCE has taken to support students and communities throughout the Pandemic. The college’s office of Planning, Research, and Institutional Effectiveness hosted its first summer data coaching session on the Headcount and Enrollment Report to help support managers. Libbier Bakit has been hired as SDCCE’s first Director of Admissions and Records to oversee the admissions, records, and evaluation functions of student services.

San Diego College of Continuing Education Foundation received a generous grant recommended by Elaine Galinson and Herb Solomon from the Joseph and Beverly Glickman Fund at the Jewish Community Foundation. The donation of more than $40,000 will provide critical technology for underserved students in the form of computers and wireless hotspots.

The League for Innovation in the Community College has posted HyFlex Teaching and Learning: Innovating and Collaborating for Equitable Adult Learner Access and Success, an article written by Vice President of Instruction Michelle Fischthal, and Online Faculty Mentor Ingrid Greenberg.

Campus/Program Exploration Days are taking place in July and August. An example of this is a scavenger hunt that will be held at Cesar Chavez to introduce students and the community throughout the entire campus.

As a reminder, I hope you will join Chancellor Cortez, our Board of Trustees, and myself, tomorrow to walk in support of our students and community at the annual San Diego Pride Parade. The first 60 SDCCE students and employees to join us at the event will receive a special SDCCE PRIDE cap in addition to the District t-shirt.
