Happy Friday, San Diego College of Continuing Education:

My hope is that you all are doing well and enjoying summer as we prepare for our fall semester!

We have continued to work towards increasing our enrollment for the fall semester, as this is one of our top priorities. I'm enthused to share that the District’s Office of Planning, Research, and Institutional Effectiveness reports that SDCCE’s fall enrollment headcount is up 34% from this same time last year. Thank you all for your commitment and focus on early registration activities including Exploration Days at various campuses. Exploration Days are block-party-style open house community events to support students with enrollment. Recently the Cesar Chavez Campus faculty, staff, and administrators, in collaboration with Outreach, hosted many community members, students, and potential students at the campus for several hours. The campus developed an interactive scavenger hunt that brought people throughout the entire building. There was great excitement with the rooftop band. Georgette Gomez, as a community member, also supported the event. A great time was had by all and was the culmination of SDCCE’s collaborative effort. A similar event was held at Mid-City Campus and more than 50 students were enrolled during the open house. Wow!

As a reminder, SDCCE Summer Explorations Days continue with the upcoming campuses hosting events during August. Please visit the schedule to see more details and thank you for participating in these campus events that support our enrollment management efforts, but as importantly, are bringing us together as a community.

In addition to Exploration Days, promotion and marketing are ongoing to support fall enrollment. The District has planned a robust campaign that includes out-of-home advertising such as transit posters, bus wraps, as well as digital ads. Our Public Information Office has also been working directly with instructional deans to promote individual classes and programs based on orientation schedules and registration dates. Recent examples over the past week include digital promotion for skilled trades, vocational ESL, and healthcare careers. This support will be ongoing through the fall semester.

Gateway to College and Career (GTCC) is sponsoring Cal Coast Day on August 9, 2002. This will provide students, and staff with the opportunity to open accounts with the credit union. All new accounts opened with a minimum of $25 dollars will receive $100 from Cal Coast as a way of saying thank you for the new account. The membership fee will also be waived for all new accounts on that day. The event will take place at ECC in GTCC Room C-120 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cal Coast will provide food, goodies, and an opportunity drawing for a $50 Visa gift card. It’s an excellent opportunity for everyone to open an account and to meet the Gateway team!

Recently, SDCCE's Business & Accounting program area new Business Sales certificate program has been approved by the state. SDCCE hopes the curriculum development process, developed as part of the Regional Strong Workforce Sector grants, becomes a model for CTE programs. The faculty curriculum authors developed the curriculum with in-depth discussions and collaboration with their credit college colleagues, regional colleagues, and a marketing and regional advisory group of business leaders. Kuddos!

In closing, as many of you are aware today is Giovanni "Gio" Garcia's last day with the District and SDCCE's President's Office. We wish Gio the very best as he continues to pursue his educational journey. Desiree "DeeDee" Redulla has been selected to serve as the Acting Executive Assistant to the President's Office, effective Monday August 8, 2022. Thank you, DeeDee, for your support and service to our college!

I wish you all a wonderful and safe weekend!

Best,
