Dear SDCCE Community,

Thank you all for the work that you are doing to support the safest return for our students. SDCCE continues to work toward increasing enrollment for the fall semester and enrollment continues to trend upward based on a point-in-time comparison. The District’s Office of Planning, Research, and Institutional Effectiveness reports that SDCCE’s fall enrollment headcount is up 43% from this same time last year, and up 38% from just last week. Thank you for your commitment and focus on early registration, which is one of the reasons for this increase. As enrollment management is a top priority for SDCCE, this is an exceptionally positive report.

The English as a Second Language program will offer a class in an offsite community location for the first time since the pandemic began. Approval to hold a class at the Bayside Community Center in Linda Vista will be on the agenda for this month's Board of Trustees meeting. The state recently approved SDCCE's first Pre-Citizenship class, which will be offered as the most accessible modality for students from the Mid-City Campus as a hyflex option this fall. We congratulate the ESL/Citizenship program for a new ESL certificate program and a revision to an existing ESL certificate program. The new certificate program, revised certificate program, and two new courses will be available to students this fall. Thank you to the ESL faculty curriculum authors, the entire ESL program faculty, and Dean Jan Jarrell. Thank you also to the classified professionals for the invaluable support they provide to this program.

Join us as the Black Student Success Program (BSSP) will host its inaugural program launch event at ECC on Thursday, August 25, 4 –7 p.m. The BSSP provides hands-on, holistic support to SDCCE students of the Black diaspora including academic counseling, mental health referrals, and basic needs support.

I am looking forward to seeing you all at convocation on August 31, 2022, at ECC. This year, and for the first time, SDCCE's Professional Development committee provided feedback to select the theme: The Future is Bright: Centering Culture & Community to Strengthen our Tapestry. It's such an exciting day and time for our college and our camaraderie. Attendees will receive a symbolic-themed t-shirt and many professional development tools will be shared. I look forward to coming together and seeing many of you whom I've already had the opportunity to greet, and to being introduced to those whom I've yet to meet.

Please RSVP today for Day One of Convocation on August 31, 2022.

Best,
