Tim Wise is one of the country’s most compelling voices on culture, politics, and power, bringing three decades of experience to some of the most urgent issues of our time. A gifted storyteller and sharp strategist, he helps audiences understand how we got here, what’s at stake, and how to move forward with clarity, courage, and purpose.
Wise has spoken at more than 1,700 college campuses and hundreds of conferences, nonprofits, and leadership summits, reaching audiences across education, business, law, public service, and media. His talks offer not only historical insight and sharp analysis, but also concrete strategies for shifting institutional culture and navigating today’s polarized climate.
I want to thank our District and PD department who are collaborating to bring Tim Wise to San Diego following the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in Higher Education (NCORE).
Fall Convocation Schedule
- 7:30 a.m. Doors open
- 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. Registration/Continental Breakfast
- 9:00 – 12:15 p.m. Presentations and Featured Speakers
- 12:15 – 1:30 p.m. President's Luncheon
- 2:30 – 5:00 p.m. Program and Department Meetings
*Please note some department meetings time vary, due to transitioning from the library, please check the Department Meeting and Flex Session Document for specific times and locations of your program.
Important Notes
- All SDCCE campuses will be closed to the public on August 25.
- All full-time employees are encouraged to attend in person, as attendance will be recorded.
- Classified professionals who do not wish to attend should coordinate with their supervisor to use vacation time, as all campuses will be closed.
- Part-time and NANCE employees may attend at the discretion of their supervisor.
- Faculty attending should note convocation counts for FLEX credit.
- Please confirm your attendance with your supervisor and submit your RSVP.
If you plan to attend the Fall Convocation, RSVP is required to receive complimentary parking validation at check-in, along with exclusive limited-edition convocation swag. We strongly encourage carpooling, ride-sharing, and using public transportation whenever possible and recommend arriving early, as doors will open at 7:30 a.m., with the program starting promptly at 9:00 a.m.
Parking Logistics
Free Parking for the event will be available at two locations: 80 spots at the San Diego Central Library Underground Parking (330 Park Blvd., San Diego, CA 92101) open on a first come first served basis and designated for special guests, those with a handicap placard or individuals needing special assistance or 120 spots across the street at the Padres Parkade (440 11th Ave, San Diego, CA 92101).
To enhance your convenience, a 56-passenger complimentary shuttle service will be available for employees from the César E. Chávez Campus National Ave. Parking Structure.
- Morning pickups from Chavez: 7:15 a.m. and 7:45 a.m.
- Afternoon drop-offs leaving the library: 1:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
- Shuttle capacity: 56 passengers per trip, 112 total across two trips (first come, first served)
- Note: Shuttle times may be affected by traffic delays. If you must meet a specific time, consider parking at the library.

PD/Flex Session Logistics
Professional development sessions will offer learning for all San Diego College of Continuing Education Classified Professionals, Faculty, and Administrators.

Please note: The AFT Meeting and Lunch will be taking place on Tuesday, August 26th from 12:00-2:00 PM. 4343 Ocean View Blvd, San Diego, CA 92113 in the patio between B & C buildings. Please RSVP by this Friday if you are planning to attend the AFT Luncheon on Day 2.
