Dear SDCCE Community,
Today is the last day to RSVP for Fall Convocation on August 28! The RSVP will close today.
Please join me, our chancellor, board of trustees, vice presidents, and esteemed guests as we reflect on our 110-year history as the leading noncredit institution in the state and where we are headed as a national leader in workforce education.
Additionally, I encourage you take a look back at our prosperous history featured on our newly launched 110 years of greatness web page here. In honor of our anniversary, you and your students are invited to share how SDCCE has impacted your life on our virtual memory wall. There are also several assets available to download including a new PowerPoint template, Zoom background, and 110-year logo to add to your email signature.
Thank you for sharing in our legacy, I look forward to our in-person celebration together!

With the summer semester winding down and the start of the fall semester just around the corner, here are some great Canvas and Zoom tips for our faculty from Dr. Ingrid Greenberg!
Single Sign On (SSO) for Canvas
On July 15, 2024, SDCCD launched Single Sign On for Canvas. Students now must use their student email and password instead of their student ID number to sign into Canvas.
Canvas Tips
If you have been teaching a summer semester, here are some Canvas tips and reminders:
- To ensure that you have a copy of your Canvas course for future use, you might want to export a copy of your Canvas course. For more information, watch this video tutorial from Monica Cueva: End-of-Semester Canvas Reminders (7:00)
- Remind students of end-of-semester and new semester activities with Canvas Inbox Messages and/or Canvas Announcements. You can send final Canvas Inbox messages to students to give them final feedback, next steps for future semesters, or information about which courses follow yours in the sequence if applicable.
- Some students also like to receive Canvas Announcements. If you are new to using "announcements" in Canvas, here is a tutorial: How do I add an announcement in a course?

President's Updates
Last week, I sat down with KUSI News to discuss our new partnership with the California Coast Credit Union to ensure SDCCE's healthcare programs are reflective of our community and more relatable to our diverse student population. Thanks to this partnership, new mannequins for healthcare students at SDCCE now come in a range of skin tones, addressing a long-ignored gap in the healthcare field and giving our students a more realistic training experience in their studies. Stay tuned for the full interview, coming soon!
I had an amazing time watching the Muni Pee Wee basketball team in their championship games over the weekend! It was an honor for SDCCE to sponsor jerseys this year and so great to see two women coaches who are near and dear to the college in many ways; Professor/Coach Jessica and Coach Jenny, well done! Congrats to Team Muni on winning your championship!
It was great to host the MANA de San Diego Annual Membership Board Meeting at the Educational Cultural Complex Campus! The local San Diego organization works to transform communities by empowering Latinas to achieve upward mobility and a better quality of life. Well done to MANA's Executive Director, Dr. Inez González Perezchica, and the Board for their continuous support, advocacy, and empowerment of Latina women at every stage of their lives!

The Research Corner
This week, we invite you to check the report: How Did Pandemic Recovery Funding Support California Community Colleges?. The report from Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) shows how California's community colleges effectively utilized over $4 billion in federal HEERF funds to support students and institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic. The funds provided emergency aid, enhanced professional development, and expanded student services such as online tutoring and mental health support. Colleges prioritized equity by directing more resources to students with the greatest needs, particularly low-income students. The funding also supported the transition to online learning, which was deemed successful by many institutions. Investments in reducing college costs, like free textbooks and laptops, were particularly influential in promoting student success. Despite ongoing budget challenges, colleges plan to continue offering essential support and are focused on evaluating the long-term impact of these recovery efforts. Please take a minute to review this resource and email jsalcedo001@sdccd.edu if you have any questions.
