SDCCE's Fall 2022 Convocation. Centering Culture and Community to Strengthen our Tapestry. The Future is Bright

Dear SDCCE Community,

I am pleased to announce enrollment management efforts continue to look positive for the fall semester. Enrollment stands at 15,616, an increase of 23% over the past week. SDCCE’s overall headcount is currently 9,189, an increase of 24% over the past week, and an increase of 45% compared to this time last year. As San Diego’s economy recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic, adult students are in critical need of advancing and developing their skills. Thank you, SDCCE for making our students feel welcome here and your ongoing efforts to support enrollment management! Thank you to our District Research Team for providing weekly data reports that help us track our enrollment trends.

Cesar Chavez Campus hosted a graduation for 25 middle schoolers that have completed the Barrio Station Youth program. The young students toured the campus and talked to SDCCE faculty, staff, and current students.

The Black Student Success Program hosted an inaugural launch: “From the Classroom to the Boardroom” event at the Educational Cultural Complex. The event was free and open to the public. The event was beautiful and captured the essence of our commitment to Black student success at SDCCE!

The City of San Diego featured SDCCE Foundation's Apprenticeship Readiness Program as their partner on pages 5 & 7 of the Project Labor Agreement Quarterly Progress Report through June 30, 2022. The sixth cohort of the Apprenticeship Readiness Program culminated with a celebration of completion attended by students and families. The students completed five certificates including the MC3 (Multi-core Craft Curriculum), CPR, OSHA 30, and Mobile Aerial Lift Platform. More than half the students have already been placed in jobs with the registered construction trades or are continuing their training in a pre-apprenticeship program specifically for the electrical trades. Students were joined by industry partners from the San Diego Regional Airport, Clark Construction, SANDAG, The San Diego Building Trades, and SDCCE's funding partner the San Diego Workforce Partnership. Students also appreciated a visit by a local ice cream truck gifted to all in attendance by Albert Valdivia from Clark Construction. Fun, Fun, Fun!!!

Thank you to all who attended the Coffee and Chat sessions with me. View the photo gallery capturing some of the still photos from the events. In an effort to continue connecting with you all, I will begin hosting Zoom Office Hours on Fridays. Twenty-minute meeting slots will be available starting soon. More information coming soon.

Lastly and with great joy, I am looking forward to seeing you all at convocation next week on August, 31st.

Best,

Dr. King
