September 11, 2023

Dear SDCCE Community,

Thank you to all of you who welcomed students back for the fall semester last week.

Today marks the 22nd anniversary of September 11, 2001, a day when innocent lives were lost in the senseless terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon, and United Airlines Flight 93. We honor and acknowledge the innocent victims who lost their lives, the first responders, and the heroes who served each other during this time. The memory of those who perished on 9/11 reminds us of why we must continue to fight against those who commit acts of terrorism. San Diego College of Continuing Education is joining the District Office, in honoring this day. Flags will be lowered to half-staff, in observance of Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance.

September is also Suicide Prevention Month. For the first time in our history, SDCCE is offering mental health counseling through the college's Be Well program. Jeremy Garcia and Janisha Street are our new full-time mental health counselors. Visit the Request for Outreach form if you would like Be Well to come to your classroom on campus to provide a presentation to your students. If you have a student of concern whom you would like to refer to us regarding mental health support, please fill out the Faculty/Staff referral form. Stay tuned for upcoming Suicide Prevention trainings in honor of September being Suicide Prevention Month.

The activation of our new wireless (Wi-Fi) service at North City Campus (NCC) is now live. The designated network for the NCC and what will be the entire District, is identified as "SDCCD-Campus-Connect." Upon selecting this network, the following steps should be used based on the user type:

Students will use their Student ID and Password (Same credentials for PeopleSoft Access)

Employees will use the work email and password.

Our goal is comprehensive: to remove the digital divide and offer equitable technology access across the board. For more information on how to connect, setup instructions, and FAQs, please visit https://sdccd.edu/wifi

SDCCE and North Orange Continuing Education will co-host Vision 2030: A Call to Action Adult Education Summit on October 5 and 6 at the Educational Cultural Complex. The California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office is bringing together state leaders, legislators, community college peers, and representatives from labor and industry to examine how legislative actions can open opportunities for adult learners. Due to an overwhelming response, registration is now closed. Up to 300 people have signed up to attend. Thank you to all who RSVP'd. Learn more on the summit web page here.

SDCCE and MTS are working together to add the “painted crosswalk and/or warning lights” to the bus stop in front of ECC to support our deaf/blind students as advocated for by DSPS faculty. The bus stop is the MTS Westbound stop on Ocean View Blvd / Marketplace Ave. Big thank you to MTS for their support of SDCCE DSPS students and increasing critical ADA accessibility.

Thank you to KUSI for allowing our college to be highlighted on September 1 about the fall semester and again on September 5 to discuss free career training and basic support resources in depth. Watch the video clips from KUSI:

This week, we invite you to check out a resource developed by our partners from the District’s Institutional Effectiveness and Research Office, the SDCCE Student Profiles Dashboard (2022 – 2023). This data product contains demographic information for the College of Continuing Education student body by showing headcount data at each of CE’s campuses. The dashboard has been designed to allow drilling down on the information by age group, gender, and ethnicity. Take a minute to review this resource and email if you have any questions.

Join Us at Our Research Center Grand Opening!
