Dear SDCCE Community,

Thank you for all of the great work in welcoming back our students and making them feel seen and supported. Enrollment continues to be strong for the fall semester. SDCCE’s overall enrollment stands at 19,676 (13% greater than this time last year), and a fill rate of 77%, which is an increase of 4% over the past week.

Following a successful fall convocation, SDCCE is celebrating Welcome Week. VP Sabanos, VP Carter, and VP Fischthal and I had the joy of visiting each of SDCCE’s 7 campuses to welcome back students and employees. Student Affairs and Outreach greeted students at ECC, CE Mesa, North City, West City, and CE Miramar. Welcome week will continue at the following campuses.

  • Monday, September 12: Mid-City Evening, 5:00PM – 6:00PM
  • Tuesday, September 13: Chávez, 9:00AM – 10:00AM
  • Thursday, September 15: Mid-City Morning, 11:00AM – 12:00 Noon

Student Affairs will start Constitution Week activities for students to honor the 235th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the United States of America with Voter Registration and Interactive Constitution Civic Engagement Info. American Community College Daily featured the story on SDG&E awarding a $1.2 million grant to SDCCE’s Foundation’s Employee Training Institute to provide Arborist/Utility Line Clearance Training.

Encourage your students to check out SDCCE's student educational resource guide to support them with technology assistance, disability services, counseling, and more. Resource Guide Link.

This year, Julia Kogan became the first to serve as a student trustee representative for the San Diego College of Continuing Education on the San Diego Community College District Board of Trustees. Check out Julia's inspiring story in SDCCD's News Center.

On Tuesday, September 13, from 11:00am to 2:00pm, we will welcome Radio Latina to the Educational Cultural Complex near the Skills Center for live entertainment, giveaways, and radio promotion. Please extend the invitation to your students to take part in this fun event.

I am pleased to announce the President’s Office Hours are now open for 1:1 meetings. Select a 20-minute time slot beginning Friday, September 23, to meet with me.

The Office of Planning, Research, and Institutional Effectiveness recently launched the Mission Survey. This survey is part of our institutional efforts in preparation for accreditation and will help us to determine if there should be revisions to our institution’s Mission, Vision, Core Values, Philosophy, and Institutional Student Learning Outcomes statements. Moreover, this information will be key to comply with the ACS WASC requirements that establish that schools must review and revise their institutional mission statement periodically to ensure it stays current and relevant. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey and reach out to jrivas@sdccd.edu if you have any technical difficulties.

I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Best,
